Lovingly restored, Garouilles is a typical Quercy stone farmhouse with a private pool set within three acres of it’s own grounds, on the edge of the beautiful and unspoilt region of Lot in Southern France. It is a peaceful and private spot, yet is within easy reach of several thriving medieval market towns. Guests have exclusive use of the house, pool and grounds. The house is simple but offers comfortable, two bed roomed accommodation for up to five people.

The ground floor is a large open plan room with a well-modernized kitchen that retains its huge open fireplace and original stone sink. There is a large refrigerator / freezer, gas cooker and a big table with seating for six. At the opposite end is the cosy sitting room, which has a double bed settee if required.

The ground floor bathroom, (shower, loo and basin) also houses a washing machine.

Upstairs are two large bedrooms, which can accommodate five comfortably. Both bedrooms are very pretty with sloping ceilings and original beams, but take note some of the beams are very low! The first bedroom houses a double bed and the second three single beds.

A wonderful terrace runs the length of the house, furnished with a garden table and plenty of seating it really is the perfect spot for eating and snoozing when the weather is hot. To the side of the terrace is a stone built barbecue.

The swimming pool (10m x 5m), with Romanesque steps is set on it’s own secluded terrace and is surrounded by flagstone paving and large bay trees. Stone walls enclose the pool area and there is a pool house with ping pong table that is ideal for storing the garden furniture or for shady afternoon siestas! There is also a floodlight for illuminating your nocturnal dips.

Garouilles nestles into the countryside between the two villages of Serignac and Mauroux, daily essentials (baker, grocer etc) can be found in either of these. Fumel, which is about 15 minutes drive away has an excellent supermarket and a wider range of shops and sights.

Garouilles is in the heart of the Cahors wine-growing region and is surrounded by vineyards, many of which are happy to sell direct. There are also numerous excellent restaurants in the near vicinity, offering meals at very reasonable prices: the area is famed for its foie gras, confits and truffles.

There are regular, colourful markets locally most days of the week throughout the summer, many of these take place in the stunning hilltop Bastide towns in the most picturesque of settings.

The River Lot winds through the valley and hosts activities such as canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boat trips. The area is rich with history, the cities of Cahors and Villeneuve sur Lot are both approximately 30 minutes drive away and offer plenty of things to see and do. Agen, a little further away, (45 minutes by car), is also very beautiful and worth a visit.

There are several superb mediaeval chateaux in the surrounding area and the stunning prehistoric caves at Peche Merle are not to be missed.

The region of The Lot is still relatively undiscovered, and is spectacularly beautiful, Garouilles is perfectly placed to offer either a super family holiday or a tranquil break.

Travel - Garouilles is approximately nine hours driving time from the North coast ferry ports, and all but the final 30 minutes of the drive can be made on the auto routes. Toulouse and Bordeaux airports are approximately one and a half hours by car, with Bergerac even closer. Cahors is on the main Paris / Toulouse rail link.

Prices are per week. Bed linen is provided at no extra cost but towels are not supplied. Wood for the fire, if necessary, is included in the price, and there is a telephone installed in case of emergency or for incoming calls. Changeover day is Saturday, with arrival after 1600 and departure by 1000.

The cottage will be clean and tidy when you arrive and we would be very grateful if you could leave things in the same condition you find them.

We require a 20% deposit when booking, with the balance due no later than eight weeks before the start of your holiday. With the final payment we also ask for a cheque for £100 as a damage deposit, refundable at the end of your stay.

Garouilles is first and foremost a family home and whilst we have made every effort to ensure that the property is safe and user friendly we trust that you will understand that you stay and use the facilities entirely at your own risk. It is especially important that parents take full responsibility for children in and around the pool area.
