Imagine a combination of good wine, food, company, relaxation and French ambience, with perhaps a little bit of culture that only the Chateaux of the Loire Valley can offer. Sounds good? Then why not make your imagination a reality and spend some quality time with your hosts Andy and Maggie in their idyllic French home. Situated in a hill top village with a Patisserie, Boulangerie, Boucher and Bar, in a wine producing area near the historic towns of Montreuil Bellay and Saumur, the house commands magnificent views of the surrounding valley, which combined with a twelve metre swimming pool sets the scene for total relaxation.

The Loire region promotes exceptional access to some great cycling, so we offer cycle tours with the option of a guide, picnics and a visit to a vineyard or chateau. You may just prefer to spend some time at your own leisure and relax by the pool, take a walk, or plan a short excursion to take in some of the fantastic sights the Loire Valley can offer. There are some excellent local golf courses, offering competitive packages for either the occasional game or for golfing holidays.

The house is tastefully furnished with every modern convenience including central heating and a wood burning stove. We have double and twin bedded rooms with en suite facilities, plus double and twin bedded rooms with shared facilities. There is a large garden and terrace area by the pool, ideal for outside dining, BBQ’s and an assortment of games including table tennis and boule.

Evening meals or BBQ’s can be provided by arrangement. We can also organise visits to local vineyards, where you can taste and purchase wine and have a guided tour of the caves. For the more discerning Andy will even run a wine tasting and appreciation course.

There are some good local restaurants which offer a wide choice including local traditional food eaten in a troglodyte cave.

We are able to provide a choice of modern ladies and gents bikes, complete with helmets, for a modest rental. There is a wide variety of guided or non-guided routes offering distances of 10, 15, or 30 miles to suit all levels. Your hosts Andy and Maggie are experienced cyclists and have enjoyed many holidays exploring the French Countryside and staying in Chambres d’hotes. Equipped with this wealth of knowledge and expertise their aim is to make your holiday just that little bit more enjoyable and unique.

Places of interest near to us are:-

9 miles south is Fauntevraut Abbey, the burial place of Henry and Elinor of Aquitaine.

At Saumur, 12 miles away, nice market town (Saturday market) chateau and good shops and restaurants.

Montreuil Bellay - 5 miles away, chateau town.

Loudun - 5 miles east of us, good market on Tuesdays, nice old town centre with shops.

Thouars - 10 miles south of us, excellent market on Fridays.

Chateaux within easy distance are: Ussé, where Perault wrote Sleeping Beauty, a pretty fairytale castle. Azay-le-Rideau, we haven't been there, but is by the river. Chinon, a ruined chateau, but a lovely town with pretty square.

A bit further afield are the chateaux of Chenenceux, Blois, Amboise - all worth seeing but probably a day out, there are a lot of others, too numerous to mention.

The old towns of Loches, Richelieu are only 1hour away in the car.

The main towns of Tours, North East of us and Angers, North West of us are about 3/4hour drive.

At Poitiers, 30 miles south is Futurescope, the cinema complex, excellent day out, and worth staying for the evening show especially for families.

At Doué-la-Fontaine, there is a zoo, apparently the best zoo in Europe, we have had a look in and it looks very good.

Lots of local vineyards when you can go to see the caves and taste the wine, no obligation to buy, but we are sure people will want to.
