In Lanhélin village
we have a bakery, a small grocery store , a wine merchant, post office,
garage/petrol station and 2 bars.
One of the bars "La
Belle Etoile" provides hot evening snacks from Easter onwards and
the other "Le Gérani" has a set meal every lunchtime.
We are within
easy reach of:
Dinan
and Dol-de-Bretagne with their medieval buildings
and streets, Dinard's beaches and coastal
walks, Cancale's bay at the tip of the peninsula
where oysters are a speciality and St Malo
where you can walk aroundthe ramparts of the city or take "The Little
Train" around the cobbled streets with commentary in English. You
can travel by boat on the river Rance Estuary
to Dinan from either Dinard or St Malo (some are floating restaurants).
Just outside Lanhélin
is Cobac Adventure Park.
Only 8 km from our home
is the lovely old town of Combourg whose
chateau, established in the 12th century, overlooks the lake. The chateau
was the home of the writer Chateaubriand and is still owned by the family.
It is open to the public during summer months.
Combourg has a variety
of shops, restaurants and creperies and a busy Monday morning market.
A little further
afield are:
Mont
St Michel - the world famous abbey.
Rennes -
the capital of the Ile et Vilaine departement.
Fougères and
Vitré - both famous for their chateaux.
