La Rousselie is the oldest (16th
Century) in a hamlet of 4 houses.
Situated halfway up a hill,
in its own grounds of around half an acre. It is not overlooked by the
other houses and there are splendid views along the valley and overlooking
the fields and woods opposite.
The house is situated in the
"Perigord Vert" region of the Dordogne, which is characterized
by fields of sunflowers and maize, woods, rivers, ancient villages and
markets and Romanesque architecture.
It is off the beaten track but
within easy reach of the busier tourist areas such as the prehistoric
caves at Les Eyzies and Bergerac.
It is about 2 kms north of Verteillac,
which is situated on the D708 road from Angouleme to Riberac.
Swimming is not very far away
on the river Dronne at Aubeterre, Lisle, Riberac and at a large lake in
a pine forest at La Jamaye, about 15kms away.
At Verteillac there is a post
office, bank, doctor's surgery, chemist, restaurant, bars , bakers, grocers,
market, butcher, garage, tennis courts, riding facilities and an open-air
swimming pool.

The accommodation is on the
first floor. The ground floor consists of various storage rooms and stables,
which we are starting to modernize. The balcony, which is reached by the
stairs on the outside of the house, is one of its main features. It is
wide enough to have meals under its shade.
Apart from the balcony, (on
which you will probably spend most of your time in summer) there is a
smallish kitchen and bathroom, a large living room, one very large bedroom
(with one double and 3 single beds) through which you walk to reach a
medium sized double bedroom.
We are in the process of creating
two more bedrooms downstairs and there is currently a single bed in one
of these ( the old oven room) which can be pressed into service if necessary.
The house is comfortably furnished
with a range of period furniture, unlimited hot water, electricity, washing
machine, shower with the bath, plenty of cutlery, crockery and books and
above all the tranquility of the Dordogne countryside.
The are also plenty of blankets
and pillows - but you will need to bring your own sheets, towels and pillow
cases.
