This very comfortable 19th Century farmhouse is ideally situated between the Dordogne and the Lot.

Located in a small village, with views over the Ceou valley, the south-facing terrace and garden overlook the ancient bourg and its beautiful 13th century church.

The sun shines on the swimming pool and terrace for twelve hours a day during the summer, and it is tempting to spend the holiday without moving from the same spot!

The area is steeped in pre-history and is a mecca for cavers. Music festivals throughout the summer range from jazz, through chamber music to opera. A full fact file on the area, including many suggestions for day trips, is kept at the house. This is being continuously updated and expanded by our visitors.

The climate in the Lot valley is similar to the Mediterranean but the proximity of the Pyrenees ensures some rainfall, keeping the landscape green and vibrant. In spring the weather is warm and sunny with the trees awash with scented blossom; July and August are the hottest months and village fetes and music festivals abound ranging from opera in the open courtyard at Castelnau, orchestras and choirs in the local churches to jazz and blues at Marciac; autumn brings beautiful days, cooler nights, the vendange the walnuts, the fall - perhaps the best time of all. We leave you to judge the superb Quercy cuisine, the fine wine and friendliness of the people which have made the region so special to us.

Les Etriers is within an hours drive of some of the most beautiful and celebrated villages in France- Rocamadour, Sarlat, St.Circ LaPopie, La Roque-Gageac, Turenne to name a few. The autoroute has brought easy access but, situated in a National Park, has been beautifully integrated and can only be glimpsed in the far distance. The Mediterranean and the Pyranees can be reached in 3 hours.

There are no shops in the village, although bread, patisserie, charcuterie and meat vans call during the week. The nearest supermarket is at LaBastideMurat (7km), and this is well stocked and has an excellent meat counter. Larger supermarkets and all other facities, including a hospital, can be found at Gourdon and Gramat. The superb boulangerie and auberge in LaBastide can be highly recommended. A doctor, a dentist and a pharmacy are also here. A colourful market is held fortnightly and a farmers market on Sunday.

Les Etriers sleeps a maximum of six in two double rooms and one twin-bedded room. Solid polished chestnut flooring and, fine examples of old Quercy furniture and good quality furnishings enhance the interior. Access to the property is from the front terrace into an entrance hall leading to a traditional French living kitchen with seating for ten at a large oak table. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a dishwasher. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in the cellar. The kitchen leads directly onto the large elevated stone terrace with quality hardwood dining furniture.Two shower-rooms each with WC and hand basin complete the accommodation.

Oil fired central heating is available during the winter.

Cleaning and linen available by arrangement.

Children will be happy playing in the pool and in the extensive grounds. Badminton and table-tennis are provided and bikes are available for hire. Tennis courts may be booked in the next village and other tennis courts, golf and all medical and commercial facilities can be found in the local market town (8km). Horse riding may be arranged locally.
