Situation -
Peaceful countryside surroundings,
where you can spend time watching the local wildlife; sitting by the pool
with a book enjoying a cool drink; or having an early morning swim, before
breakfasting under the pergola, or on the terrace. The pool, which has
a security alarm, is 7 m x 3 m and 1.2 m deep, so is ideal for young children,
or those who don’t like to get out of their depth, as well as for
those who are water confident. The large garden is enclosed and is equipped
with swings and play area, football goal, badminton net, boules area.
Why not make La Roseraie
(the rose garden) your base for discovering the jewels the Charente Maritime
region has to offer.
Location -
We are situated in south
west France, between La Rochelle and Bordeaux, amongst the sunflowers
and the vines. There are many small villages and towns to explore, with
their colourful markets and places of interest. Sample the wonderful seafood
at one of the restaurants that can be found at the many little fishing
ports that border the Gironde estuary. Twenty minutes away you will find
the major towns of Royan, a large, lively port and seaside resort with
excellent beaches and nearby at La Palmyre, a fantastic zoo; historic
Saintes, with its amphitheatre, Roman heritage and boat trips along the
river; Pons, with its famous fortress tower and links to the Compostella
pilgrims. Drive 30 minutes to Rochefort’s nature reserve which boasts
a plethora of wildlife such as sea eagles, red kites and otters; Visit
Cognac, 45 minutes away to sample the wares of the houses of Martell,
Hennessy, Otard and Remy Martin; Only an hour away are La Rochelle, an
historic sea port, packed with wonderful architecture, an aquarium and
great shops; and Bordeaux, a bustling city with a tram system to make
sight seeing and shopping easy.
Activities -
We are ideally situated,
being in the countryside and yet just 20 minutes from the seaside, with
the region’s famed wide, sandy beaches and hidden coves to discover,
for relaxation or sport, with opportunities for surfing, fishing and boating.
Other activities you may wish to enjoy while you are here include walking,
cycling, tennis, golfing, wine-tasting, horse-riding, bird watching, house
hunting, music festivals, or visiting the many historical sites and Romanesque
churches in the region. Whatever you choose to do, you will no doubt work
up an appetite and thirst for some of the region’s cuisine, perhaps
including pineau and cognac at the local distilleries and seafood (especially
oysters from Marennes) at the local restaurants. Or why not just stay
put, chill out and let us wine and dine you.
Families are welcomed.
